Founded in 1974, idc-Automatic has grown to set the standard for quality garage doors in the Upper Midwest. Beginning in his own garage, Gerry grew the Company through hard work and a commitment to providing outstanding garage door systems and service to customers in the Twin Cities area.
With continued expansion in mind Industrial Door Company acquired another local dealer in the Twin Cities in 2011 and renamed the door division, idc-Automatic.

idcAutomatic History Timeline
- 1974: Gerry Sizer starts Industrial Door Company in his own garage with a pickup truck and $8000 he borrowed from his father.
- 1976: Corporate headquarters purchased at 360 Coon Rapids Blvd, Coon Rapids, MN.
- 1980: Building #2 built with the help of an SBA loan.
- 1981: Twin City Spring is purchased and renamed Industrial Spring. First spring is made on April 1, 1981.
- 1986: Industrial Door Company expands product line to include residential garage doors. Building #3 is built to accommodate growth.
- 2006: idcAutomatic begins manufacturing premium custom wood garage doors.
- 2011: Automatic Garage Doors is acquired and merged with Industrial Door Company. IDC is the largest professional garage door dealer in Minnesota and is renamed idcAutomatic.
- 2019: idcAutomatic announces a reorganization of business leadership structure. Randy Marttinen assumes owner equity position and becomes president of idcAutomatic.
- 2020: The Overlay Collection is rebranded and becomes a visually stunning, high-quality product sold solely by idcAutomatic.
- 2022: idcAutomatic purchases Relay Construction and offers concrete services to its customers.
- 2024: Breaking ground on idcAutomatic corporate headquarters expansion.
